LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Los Angeles Kings broadcasting legend Bob Miller was honored Saturday with a statue unveiling ceremony in front of Staples Center.

Miller's likeness sits near another broadcasting legend, Chick Hearn, a man who actually recommended Miller for the job in 1972.

The longtime voice of the team retired after 44 seasons last April.

"He's been around for a long time...that's a huge honor for him. It's great to see that the organization recognizes him for everything he's done, and congratulations to him," defenseman Drew Doughty said.

The honor came the night the Kings and Anaheim Ducks face off, which is another reason fans were fired up.

In addition to the statue, a banner was hung inside Staples Center for Miller.

Before the festivities, Miller said he was most excited to share the honors with fans.

"The fans have been so great to me all 44 years I've been here with their comments...their passion, their loyalty to the L.A. Kings. I've had a tremendous amount of fun talking to all of them," he said.
